Prolonged-excitation coherent Raman spectroscopy with spectral resolution beyond the transition linewidth using two tunable picosecond dye lasers

چکیده
Received June 11, 1984; accepted September 20, 1984 A time-resolved coherent anti-Stokes Raman technique is demonstrated that yields a spectral resolution beyond the linewidth obtained in spontaneous Raman spectroscopy. Two picosecond dye lasers, independently tunable with low timing jitter, are used. The coherent material excitation is generated by long pump pulses and monitored by short delayed probing pulses. Transiently narrowed Raman spectra are recorded by scanning the lasers over the resonances of interest and simultaneously monitoring the coherent scattering signal as a function of the excitation frequency. The technique is applied to molecular vibrations in liquids. The differences between the technique presented and standard coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy are demonstrated.

Spectroscopists are constantly faced with the task of improved spectral resolution. Two points are of major interest: (i) The precise frequency of the quantized transition and (ii) the detection of new neighboring transitions. Besides experimental factors the ultimate spectral resolution is determined by the inherent linewidth of the transition. Optical spectroscopists have to deal with differe...

Broadband picosecond coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) spectroscopy of nitrogen is demonstrated using 145-ps pump and probe beams and a 115-ps Stokes beam with a spectral bandwidth of 5 nm. This is, to our knowledge, the first demonstration of broadband CARS using subnanosecond lasers. The short temporal envelope of the laser pulses and the broadband spectral nature of the Stokes bea...
متن کاملNarrowing of Spectral Lines beyond the Natural or Dephasing Line Width
In spectroscopy one is always faced with the problem of spectral resolution. One wishes to determine the frequency of the quantized transition with highest accuracy and one is interested in detecting fine structure or neighboring transitions. Disregarding experimental factors, the ultimate resolution is dictated by the inherent linewidth of the transitions. In optical spectroscopy we know vario...
متن کاملMulticolor stimulated Raman scattering microscopy with a rapidly tunable optical parametric oscillator.
Stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) microscopy allows label-free chemical imaging based on vibrational spectroscopy. Narrowband excitation with picosecond lasers creates the highest signal levels and enables imaging speeds up to video-rate, but it sacrifices chemical specificity in samples with overlapping bands compared to broadband (multiplex) excitation. We develop a rapidly tunable picosecond...
متن کاملA tunable picosecond dye laser for use in dioxin analysis.
A distributed-feedback dye laser with a quenching cavity was designed and constructed for generating a tunable picosecond pulse with a narrow spectral linewidth. This nearly transform-limited pulse was succeedingly amplified by a triple-pass off-axis amplifier. The pulse duration and the spectral linewidth were 60 ps and 9.4 pm, respectively. The amplified pulse was frequency-doubled by second-...
